Top-of-the-Arch
A blog about our road trips on Route 66, Lincoln Highway, St. Louis, New York, Michigan, etc. (we have been to 37 States, 13 more to visit), about my love of hockey (NHL), football (NFL), coming to America, growing up in Viet Nam, humor that ain't funny and still a lot of ramblings!

WHAT ARE THE CHOICES?
Hey QQ, how many choices do you think they have at this House of Choy? I thought you, as a punster, would appreciate this. How about "One ton soup"? haa haa

PIES AND CAKE
This year instead of the pumpkin pie, Ralphie made something different this year, a double-layer pie. He also made cute little fruit (blackberry and cherry) pies.
This cake is on display at Shrine of St. Rose Philippine Duchesne in St. Charles.
THE BLESSING
The Blessing (Tune of
Edelweiss) – Bless our friends, bless our food, come, O Lord and sit with us,
may our talk glow with peace, bring your love to surround us. Friendship and peace may it bloom and grow,
Bloom and grow forever, Bless our friends, bless our food, bless our dear land
forever.
GOOD AND BEAUTIFUL
Hello from my corner in
St. Louis …
I am sure you all have
seen destructive images and enough negative news stories reportedly coming
from St. Louis. I chose not to be one of
those “wannabe” reporters or those trying to post pictures on their social
media to prove that they were part of the “actions” or to get a few “likes” on
their webpage. I chose these good and
beautiful images (from the Missouri Botanical Garden) because I believe if you could not contribute to make it
better, at least try not adding to the problems.
Family and friends have
been sending words asking about our well-being in STL. The current situation (in North county) does
not directly impact where we live which is in West county area. However, my office building is located two
blocks from the Prosecutor’s office. It
was a very tense and stressful time for all of us. My office closed around 3pm on Monday prior to the announcement of the decision. The next two days, I went to work and the area was quiet, different from what you might see on national news. My husband works outside
of St. Louis, so the situation does not directly impact his workplace.
Let’s pray for peaceful
days ahead …

SWEET TO SWEET
According to the Hallmark pocket calendar, Saturday, October 18th is Sweetest Day. So I thought this cake in front of a business named Sweetology on Clayton Road in Ladue, would be appropriate for today.
Here are a few expressions about sweet: Short and sweet (all politicians should remember this when giving speeches); sweet nothings (not sure what this means); if you are sweet on someone you must know how to sweet-talk him/her; you have to take the bitter with the sweet (who says life is fair); parting is such sweet sorrow (but tomorrow is another day) and finally, do you have a sweet tooth?

HOCKEY AND CAKE - THE BEST OF BOTH WORLD
Well, you got to move on ... one hockey stick at a time! You probably already knew that the St. Louis Cardinals did not make it to the World Series - it is now Kansas City Royals v. San Francisco Giants. I offered to "go to bat" for the Cardinals but they turned me down. They told me that I was not "fit" to be on their team - too short, too old and too chubby! This is blatant discrimination - age, race and disability - just kidding!
It is sunny and comfortable today. My husband went golfing this morning, one more round, before the snow covers the ground. After golf, Ralphie usually cooks breakfast. We start the weekend with a nice and relaxing morning. This week, I decided to take care of most of the errands after work, even though I was tired but it pays off not having to run around with a long list of chores on the weekend.
This cake is on display in front of City Hall in downtown St. Louis.

OCTOBER IN ST. LOUIS - GO CARDS
Thank you Busboy for your kind and thoughtful comment. Perhaps we could have a friendly wager for the I-70 Series - are you interested? Well, I should not speak too soon lest the Cardinals might blame for me for jinxing them.
All is well here in my corner in STL. The rain finally stops today but the sun is still hiding behind all the cloud. It is getting cold in the low 60's.
With so many urgent matters facing the world around us, it is selfish yet comforting to know that we could still enjoy a few moments of happiness at a sporting event. However you cope with events in your life, I hope you find the strength and support to overcome and rise above the difficulties.

BTUtiful
This butterfly was one of the Wings in the City sculptures that were on display in 2011. I did not go out of my way trying to take pictures of all the pieces, just the ones I really like.
The photo below is my favorite, especially with the current situation, it symbolizes what is good and beautiful in St. Louis. Have a relaxing and peaceful weekend everyone!

TOTA IS OK IN STL
Hello
everyone! I thought I should post today
to let you, my adoring fans and faithful readers, know that we are fine. The trouble area that you might have heard (saw on national news) is
about 30 miles from our town and it does not impact where we live or work.
I will
refrain from making any comments here to avoid potential accusations of taking
sides or worse, being drawn into unproductive heated arguments.
Have a good week and be cool.
